THE JEHOVAH TITLES
By Pastor Jared Decker
JEHOVAH-MELEK
First Mention: Psalm 10:16
The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.
Meaning: The Lord is King
Just as do earthly kings, the Lord deserves to be honored, feared, reverenced, respected, and obeyed.
Psalms 24:7-10
7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
Every politician has a record…either that they lift up or lie about. Their record is what we look at to decide whether they are trustworthy or not with the job laid before them.
I want you to look with me at the reliable, unadulterated record of the Kings of Kings…
1. His Past Kingship – To Israel.
Every king seeks for loyalty in his subjects. The Lord desired no less from Israel. Yet, all he secured from them was a consisted rejection of His authority as the Sovereign King.
The Lord desired to be the King of Israel, but we see a sad conclusion to His marvel works in the book of Judges that is even truer than meets the eye…"In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes."
We see this further rejection of the Lord as King in I Samuel 8:7…
And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
Yet, being the great King that He is, He was always everything that they needed, exactly when they needed it.
He was a conqueror when they were conquered.
He was a comforter when they were discomforted.
He was a friend when they were friendless.
He was a father when they were fatherless.
He was a provider when they were without provision.
Psalms 78:32
For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.
But God always sought to remind them of who was King. Jehovah-Melek…The Lord is King!
Isaiah 44:6
Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
2. His Present Kingship – Through Christ.
When the wise men came looking for the Messiah, they were not mistaken in their identification of Him. They ask, “Where is he that is born King of the Jews…”
There only mistake, is that He had come to be, not only the King of the Jews, but the King of all who would believe.
Years later, He would pay the ultimate price for His subjects…He died for them. Once again, the King had become what the people needed. He had become servant to the servants.
Philippians 2:5-11
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Praise God that His reign didn’t end at the Cross!
Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, is just as alive today as He was over 2000 years ago and before.
I Timothy 1:17
Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
I Timothy 6:15-16
15 Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.
He wants to be your King! Believe and Receive! - I John 5:7-13
3. His Future Kingship – Throughout Eternity.
Even in the Old Testament, the Lord, the King, gave us a picture perfect description of His future Kingship.
Zechariah 14:1-9
1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
The King is Coming Again!
He is coming the first time to catch up His children…
I Thessalonians 4:16-18
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
…What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see…
The second time He comes, it will be to conquer the world and set up His earthly kingdom in preparation of His eternal kingdom.
Revelation 17:14
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
Revelation 19:11-16
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
Sadly, as every king does, Jehovah-Melek has enemies that will be condemned to a fate worse than death.
Revelation 20:11-15
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
The Lord will Judge every soul…those without Christ, those who are not part of the bloodline of the King, will be His everlasting enemies. They will be cast into a lake of fire.
He wants to be the King of Your Heart
He wants to be the King of Your Home
He wants to be the King of Your Here After
Will you let Him be your King? The Lord is King!
